As part of our ongoing "Getting to Know Your Local Businesses" series, this week we sat down with Samir Bansikar, franchise owner and center director of Mathnasium – New Caney.

Tell us a bit about your business: What does your business offer, and how long have you been around?
For more than a decade, the Mathnasium Method™ has transformed the way kids understand and appreciate math. Larry Martinek, creator of the Mathnasium Method, has spent 40+ years designing, developing, and refining this approach based on his extensive experience teaching math to kids. Across 800+ centers in the U.S. and Canada, Mathnasium helps kids understand math by teaching them in a way that makes sense to them.

Our specialty trained math instructors at the New Caney location will teach your child how to understand math in an individual setting.  Our unique approach enables us to effectively explain math concepts and lend a helping hand to every student. Our tutors foster a caring, encouraging environment that helps students thrive and learn!

How did you decide to get involved in this line of work?
For over 16 years, I have been assisting large global organization in over 15 countries with their most challenging business transformation programs as an Information technology professional services executive.

As I have looked into the education standard within our state in general, I realized that our standard is not very high. There are many students who have moved to the next grade and are not well versed in math fundamentals. I wanted to make a difference with our education standards and equip children with math skills that will serve them well the rest of their lives.

When I looked into the Mathnasium franchise, I was sure this organization could make the kind of impact that I wanted.

Tell us a couple things you are proud of for your business. What are you known for? What separates you from the competition?
I am most proud when I see my students get their confidence back. We make math fun for them and they are no longer scared of math.

We don’t assign homework to students and we specialize in teaching math concepts for understanding, giving students the ability to succeed in any math environment.

Children who consistently attend sessions at our learning center enjoy a transformative learning experience and make huge strides in the classroom.

What is your favorite part of running the business?
I love working with parents and bringing smiles to our student’s faces!

Who is your ideal customer/client? Who do you serve best?
Any student in the first through 12th grade who wants to improve their math skills are our ideal clients.

Is there any other information you'd like your potential customers/clients to know about your business?
We do hope everyone enjoyed attending our grand opening celebration on June 1 and our ribbon cutting ceremony that was held on June 11 of this year.

We will be hosting a series of FREE fun Math Magic programs throughout the summer for Grades 1st – 12th. During this program, our instructors will be making special presentations about our learning method and the results that are possible. Our next Math Magic Day is on Friday, July 26th from 10am-noon. Sign up your child and tell your friends and family to sign up at [email protected] or by calling us at 281-764-9030. There are 30 spots available, so act soon! We look forward to seeing them!

Our Mathnasium instructors use our unique assessment process to determine (with great accuracy) exactly what each child knows and what they need to learn. Each student receives a customized learning plan that is focused on the exact concepts that the student needs to master. But, it doesn’t stop there. Our encouraging instructors continually check their student’s progress along the way, making sure that students are truly understanding and retaining the concepts that they are being taught.

How do you see your business growing and improving over the next couple of years?
We definitely see our business growing in the coming years as customers visit our storefront in the Valley Ranch Center shopping center and find out that when math makes sense, children leap way ahead.

As we grow, we will continue to help parents see the transformation of their children … seeing them make measurable changes in their attitude, building their confidence and improving their progress in school.
