Splendora UAS Division Assists in Apprehension of Suspect with an Active Open Warrant
On the night of February 28th, 2023, a City of Splendora Patrol Officer initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle for a traffic violation. The adult male passenger fled on foot from the vehicle in the 26000 Block of FM 2090 into a wooded area.
An on duty UAS Division Pilot responded to the location and launched his assigned onboard aircraft. Utilizing the aircrafts on board thermal capabilities, the UAS Pilot was able to locate the subject who fled into the wooded area near Peach Creek Elementary and directed ground units to the location.
The male was found to have an open and active warrant out of Montgomery County, and he was taken into custody without further incident. Chief Wieghat is a strong advocate of leveraging technology with the department's mission to make the City of Splendora a safe place for its visitors, businesses and residents. Chief Wieghat would like to express his gratitude to the UAS Division who operate year-round and 24/7
