According to court reports, on November 30, 2018, Judge Phil Grant of the 9th District Court of Montgomery County, Texas sentenced Shawn Ray Evans of Porter to 15 years in prison in connection with his fifth Driving While Intoxicated (DWI) related arrest.

On May 7, 2017, Evans was the driver in a one-vehicle crash on Porter Lane and was found to have a blood alcohol level of .146. Evans suffered severe injuries as a result of the crash, and struggled to comply with court directives to only utilize medication prescribed to him while on bond for this offense.

On October 10, 2018, Evans pleaded guilty to the court and requested that a Pre-Sentence Investigation Report be completed on his behalf. During the sentencing, the State presented evidence of Evans' 2004 conviction for Criminally Negligent Homicide in Harris County, Texas, for which he served two years in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice.

Following a review of the report and hearing brief testimony from family members of Evans, as well as Evans himself, Judge Phil Grant in the 9th District Court sentenced the Defendant to 15 years in prison, finding the deadly weapon allegation true.

As a result of the deadly weapon paragraph, Evans will be required to serve at least one half of his 15 year sentence before he becomes eligible for parole.
